    I eat here every time I stay at the Ambassador! It is a bit pricey, but SO worth it! For dinner I love the chicken/pasta puttanesca. They also make a great breakfast/brunch. I had a wonderful asparagus omelette and fresh squeezed orange juice.

    One perk of Oklahoma City's recent hotel revival is the introduction of that rarest of beasts: the worthwhile hotel restaurant. Room service, however luxurious an idea, does not always mean that the price you pay will be matched by the quality of the food. And sometimes, you pay a little extra just to eat at a fancy hotel, whether or not you get to nap there. Which is why I was so pleased when I sat down in the intimate and comfortably posh Viceroy Grille in the Ambassador Hotel. O Bar upstairs -- try the apple flip -- has many fans, but the ground-floor Viceroy remains a bit of a mystery, which is a shame because this menu deserves exploration. For those on a budget, lunch prices are quite reasonable. The best place to start, especially if you've got a table to feed, is the house potato chips. Some consider chips a banal indulgence, but freshly fried potatoes are an entirely other edible. These are delicate and crisp, lightly salted and pair wonderfully with sour cream and onion dipping sauce. The Alaskan King Salmon Nugget Salad is light, fresh and mildly sweet. The salad itself is dressed in a lemon vinaigrette with a great crunch. The salmon pieces are each cooked perfectly -- slightly rare and flaky -- and glazed in maple bourbon sauce. The roasted chicken pot pie, with a unique and eye-catching appearance, is heavier and heartier. Similar to chicken stew, it includes tender peas and carrots and is topped with a big, buttery biscuit. The beef bourguignon is incredibly filling. These are fall-apart chunks of beef cooked in a lovely sauce with sautéed peppers and served over slightly chewy spaetzle (dumplings). After a lunch like this, you'll definitely need a room in which to crash. As a sandwich, I was pleased with the pork schnitzel, which came on a soft bun and with plenty of breaded, buttery crunch. My personal favorite is still the wiener schnitzel at Ingrid's Kitchen, but this was a worthy competitor and quite satisfying. The prices go up at dinner, but so do the portion sizes and the complexity of dishes. As a starter, I thought the pan-fried chicken livers tasted like home even though my mom never cooked chicken livers. These rich, tender bites melt on the tongue. The grilled Caesar salad won me over with the addition of white anchovies ($3). The baby romaine lettuce held a good charred flavor, and the anchovies, which scare away too many, were mild and fresh. I used to think all French onion soups were the same, but I've come to appreciate chefs who think not only about taste but also how the guest eats the meal. A version with too much or too heavy a cheese is nearly impossible to eat without making a mess. Onions that aren't cooked enough will slop out over a spoon and splash soup everywhere. The Viceroy's version was the best of both worlds -- the soup itself was flavorful, and the onions were cooked to melting. On top, there was enough cheese to flavor the soup and the bread but not so much I had to dig through it with a shovel. And here I'd like to talk a bit about the role of the server because he was invaluable to me during dinner. Whether it was suggesting a nice glass of wine on a budget or steering me toward a few of his favorite dishes, it was clear he took as much pride in the food coming out of the kitchen as the chef. A top-notch waiter can't replace great food, but he can create an experience that also lets you enjoy the meal. For instance, I likely would have skipped the short rib sauerbraten, had he not suggested it. What came out of the kitchen was more than I could have hoped for. The giant, meaty short ribs required only a gentle nudge of my fork to come away from the bone. I am not one for sauerkraut, but if the Granny Smith apple and red cabbage kraut they served on this plate was the norm, I'd eat it on everything. It had a big, beefy flavor, chewy spaetzle underneath and a texture that disintegrated on the tongue. The slightly sweet, slightly sour flavor of the cabbage accentuated each bite. For fans of a hearty sauce, the roasted chicken alla Puttanesca is a treat. While everything was cooked well, the olive-heavy sauce was a bit more pungent than I prefer. And, frankly, it suffered by comparison to the short rib. And, like the short rib, this chicken comes on-the-bone, so keep that in mind, weirdos who refuse to eat meat off bones. Desserts are made fresh daily, and it shows. The berry tiramisu was not overly sweet, but the texture was spot-on -- a bit of bite in the ladyfingers and a creamy texture throughout. OKC has quickly become a place to visit, not just because your family is here but because there are so many things to do and see. And for those lucky travelers who bed down at the Ambassador, there's a wonderful restaurant hidden downstairs. For the rest of us, it's not so hidden anymore.

    Unfortunately, I was very underwhelmed by the Viceroy Grille, and disappointed because I'd been wanting to try it after hearing such great things. My mom and I went in for Viceroy's "Midweek in Midtown" special, which read as lunch entrees being buy one, get one half price on Wednesdays over the summer. Come to find out, the BOGO was only good on the "Entree" section, not on salads or sandwiches. Not a huge deal, but I would consider it a bit of false advertising considering there are only three choices for the entree section, and probably 10 salads/sandwiches, not to mention the entree options are things like Alfredo and chicken pot pie - not your typical summer lunch. I had the salmon salad and my mom had the spicy beef sandwich. It was just...OK. It wasn't bad, the salmon was great, but when I'm paying $14 for a salad, I expect it to be loaded with goodies and it wasn't. It was salmon with lettuce, red onions and tomatoes, with a lemon vinaigrette that just didn't have much flavor. I've had better salads for much less. My mom felt the same about her sandwich - not bad, but not a ton of flavor and not worth the price. The restaurant is gorgeous, and I love the vintage atmosphere of the hotel, but I'm not sure I'll be back to Viceroy. For the high prices, it just didn't seem worth it to us.

    Had breakfast. Excellent menu with lots of variety. Very relaxing atmosphere and upscale furnishing. Staff were great. Breakfast was good but my egg white omelet and potatoes were over salted. It was all cooked extremely well otherwise.

    The Viceroy Grille gave us a delicious and romantic Valentine's dinner. It was pricey, but definitely worth it. The staff was friendly and courteous, and our server, Everett, was attentive, helpful and very kind. He answered any questions that we had and made sure we had everything we needed without hovering. The Valientine's menu was prix fixe, that started with an appetizer to share, and accompanied by a sampling of delicious champagne. We had the smoked salmon crepe with capers and a dill-mascarpone. The flavors were amazing together. The next course was either the Viceroy Salad or a Lobster Bisque. I had the soup and my Husband had the salad. The salad was served with large chunks of bacon that he really enjoyed. The bisque was rich, creamy and delicious. However, the real stars of the show were our main courses. My Husband had the rack of lamb served with fingerling potatoes, brussels sprouts, and chimichurri. The portion size was enormous, and my Husband said the lamb was cooked perfectly and the sauce was fantastic. I had the dry-packed scallops over saffron risotto and wilted baby kale with vanilla burre blanc and roe on top. The scallops were cooked perfectly and the sauce was an incredible addition - though I was dubious about "vanilla" being in the description. The saffron risotto was creamy and well seasoned and blended perfectly with the scallops. The whole dish was really enjoyable - and huge! I was stuffed. And there was still dessert. I had the pot de creme for dessert and my husband had a flaky pastry with butter pecan ice cream. I'd give you name, but I'd botch it horribly. He loved the crisp and flaky pastry with the creamy ice cream - and he's a pecan junkie. I loved the cool cream over the chocolate in the pot de creme. We had a fantastic meal and a wonderful dining experience. We will definitely be back, though it may just be for special occasions because it is pricey.

    My wife and I decided to try Viceroy for the first time last night and we were very glad we did. It looks to be a welcome addition to the OKC restaurant scene and gives Midtown yet another nice place to have a meal. The restaurant is nestled in the Ambassador hotel. The restaurant decor is cozy, hip and welcoming. A very comfortable place to hang out. It was busy. The service was excellent and attentive without being pesky. The food was a nice surprise and well executed overall. They have a nice bar area and interesting wine selection. We had a delicious duck strudel as an appetizer. It was unlike anything I've had before. Shredded duck wrapped in phyllo and served with a delicious sauce, the kind of sauce that makes you want to like the plate. I'd go back just for the the duck strudel. We had the house salad and the beet salad and both were very nice. Scallops were sweet and seared to perfection and served on a saffron risotto. The risotto was a little under seasoned for my taste. The lamb shank was fall of the bone tender and delicious and served with a flageolet ragout. The ragout was smoky and delicious and a highlight of the meal. We tried a side of spaetzle which was nice but also in need of a little stronger seasoning. No big deal though. We finished with a chocolate pot de creme that was elegant and just plain delicious. Overall a very enjoyable meal in a great setting.

    I have been here for the week on buisness, and every time I have have eaten here it has been great. Only reason no 5 star rating is because they are a little pricey. Great food and service otherwise.

    Stopped by because I was staying in the ambassador hotel, and didn't expect much. I was pleasantly surprised. The food is as good as you're going to find anywhere. I had the lobster bisque to start, followed by the rack of lamb special with butternut squash risotto and cherry molé. It was all phenomenal. The double chocolate cheesecake was over the top chocolatey. I had been out partying the night/morning before, and was a little out of it, but Jessica took wonderful care of me and was super helpful and friendly. She makes a great martini. Highly recommend.

    Wednesday I took Robin and Heather to the Viceroy Grill for our monthly luncheon outing. It is in the newly reopened Ambassador Hotel at 11th and Walker. My first eyeball impression was old timey austere, but the young man and lady who seated us banished that away with their bubbly personalities. Heather had not arrived yet so we ordered Pei Mussels to nosh while waiting. The mussels came in a huge bowl aswim in a sauce that was just tangy enough to be interesting.. Heather arrived as Rob and I were slurping our first few mussels. She surprised us by saying she had never eaten mussels before and is there a proper way of doing that. Just suck them out of the shell I advised, and she got with it with obvious relish. Even with the three of us snacking there were so many that some went back to the kitchen. Rob and I had French Onion Soup. The cheese coating was not directly on the liquid soup, but rather was melted on crusty bread that floated on the liquid. This negated the problem of strings of cheese every which way while spooning the soup. Easy to eat, and absolutely delicious. Robin had the Pork Schnitzel and commented on the tastiness of the garnish. Heather had the Grilled Chicken and thought it was spiced just right. Both dishes came with chips. The Chips were about 4 times as thick Lays and cooked crisply throughout, very good...I had a Tamale plate, The black beans and rice were fine and the flavors were OK but the Tamales were dry, not this chefs forte. As it was Robins and My birthday we all shared a delicious chocolate cake with blueberries to top off the meal.....I didn't find that on my bill, so Thank You Viceroy Grill

    Absolutely delicious meal made for a great evening! Everything we had was fabulous, but the service really made it. Also, the decor is upscale, which is a nice change from so many restaurants with their exposed ventilation systems painted black in an unfinished ceiling. The decor would have been the same 50 years ago at the Palmer House in Chicago. Come early and have a drink at the bar. The bartender was super! A lot of places make good food, this was a really elegant setting in which to enjoy great food. While there were people in jeans, that was by no means the standard outfit, which added to the ambiance.

    Charming staff and the most elegant dining decor in OKC. But let's talk food. Pork chops on a sweet corn mash was divine. Crab cakes that would stun Maryland into submission, a vibrant wine list and enchanting salads which are the simpler, perfect start to sumptuous entrees.
